Anthem Medicare Supplement Enrollment Increases 12,000 in 4th Quarter 2019

Anthem, Inc. released 4th quarter 2019 financials on January 29th, adding 12,000 Medicare Supplement lives in the 4th quarter and 47,000 Medicare Supplement lives in 2019.  The Anthem enrollment table below features Medicare Supplement policy in-force counts of 905,000 as of 12/31/2019, a 59,000 increase in the past year.  The enrollment increase of 59,000 in the past year is a 7.0% increase over the in-force lives at 4th quarter 2019.  CSG Actuarial projects Anthem’s Medicare Supplement sales at 4th in the overall market over the past 12 months.

CVS Health Medicare Supplement Enrollment Increases 39,000 in 4th Quarter 2019

For 4th quarter 2019, CVS Health reported Medicare Supplement member in-force counts of 881,000, up 39,000 from 3rd quarter 2019 and 88,000 over the past 12 months.  The 39,000 increase in membership during 4th quarter 2019 was 21,000 greater than the membership growth in 4th quarter 2018.  The 88,000 increase in membership in 2019 was 66% higher than the membership growth in 2018.  The table below shows CVS Health/Aetna’s Medicare Supplement enrollment counts by quarter since 4th quarter 2011 and annual increase in Medicare Supplement enrollment counts by quarter since 4th quarter 2012.  CSG Actuarial projects CVS Health’s Medicare Supplement sales at 3rd in the overall market over the past 12 months.

Humana Medicare Supplement Enrollment Increases 11,800 in 4th Quarter 2019

Humana reported 4th quarter 2019 Medicare Supplement lives of 298,400, a 4.1% increase over 3rd quarter 2019 and a 17.3% increase over 4th quarter 2018.  Annual membership in 2019 grew by 44,100, 140% higher than the annual membership growth in 2018.  The table below shows Humana’s Medicare Supplement enrollment counts by quarter since 1st quarter 2011.  Humana also reported 4th quarter 2019 Medicare Supplement premiums of $154 million, up 18% from 4th quarter 2018.  Based on estimates from CSG Actuarial, Humana’s sales in ranked 6th in the market in 2019.

CNO Financial Group Reports Medicare Supplement Sales in 4th Quarter 2019

CNO Financial Group (parent company of Bankers Life & Casualty, Washington National, and Colonial Penn) reported 4th quarter 2019 Medicare Supplement sales of $17.2 million, down 4% from 4th quarter 2018.  For the past 12 months CNO Financial Group reported Medicare Supplement sales of $58.3 million, ranking in the top 10 in the Medicare Supplement market.  CNO Financial Group also reported 4th quarter 2019 Medicare Supplement earned premiums of $189 million, down $1 million from 3rd quarter 2019 results.
