Medicare Supplement market leader United Healthcare (UHC) released 2nd quarter 2018 financials on July 17th, adding 15,000 Medicare Supplement lives in the 2nd quarter, an 50% increase over the lives added during 2nd quarter 2017. The UHC enrollment table features Standardized and Modernized policy in-force counts of 4,505,000 as of June 30, 2018, an increase of 145,000 in the past 12 months.
Enrollment in the Medicare Supplement market has grown steadily since 2008 and UHC continues to be the clear leader in the market, capturing over 30% of total market new sales and in-force policies. The percentage of Medicare enrollees covered by UHC Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage policies has increased from under 10% in 2010 to almost 15% as of June 30, 2018.
